A Quilt From Our Studio - Pokemon!
Posted by Christy Dillon on 19th Mar 2017
This quilt was made by both Christy Sr and Christy Jr for Christy Jr's little boy, Aaron, who just loves Pokemon! It's a great quilt to make for children or grandchildren, and all you need is the Wonky Trim Square by Creative Grids.
The Wonky stars are very easy to make! You can feature any fabric in the 6.5" center square. Then you add 3.5" x 6.5" rectangles to each side, and use the Wonky square to trim the block up. By carefully selecting the colors of the rectangles, you can create stars of different colors to make a pattern.
We used a panel of Pokemon fabric in the center of the quilt and placed the Wonky stars all around. Then we added a blue inner border and a matching three inch Pokemon border. The binding is the same blue as the inner border.
Next we choose which pattern to finish the quilt with, and we settled on
Storm Clouds Edge-to-Edge. The Pokemon figures evoke speed and movement, and we thought Storm Clouds complemented them perfectly. Moreover, since the pattern is not too dense, the Pokemon figures show through while the quilting disappears into the background.
Other patterns that would have worked great here include:
Zoe's Star Edge-to-Edge 1, Zirie's Ocean Spray Edge-to-Edge, Milky Way Edge-to-Edge, or David's Maze Edge-to-Edge 2.
