A Quilt From Sharon Sweetland's Studio - Hawthorn Whole Cloth
Posted by Christy Dillon on 9th Dec 2017
As soon as I received the Hawthorn Mystery Set I envisioned a whole cloth made with some of the patterns. So I set it up in Creative Studio 7 by first deciding what the length and width would be. I settled on approximately 100 inches square as a good size.
I then had to decide how I was going to layout the patterns and in which order it was going to sew it out. When you design a whole cloth you have to keep in mind how big your machine bed is so that you can sew it out as whole patterns! In this particular case I designed from the middle out, until I reached the size I wanted.
After stitching everything out the quilt finished at 98.5 inches square. The quilting is quite dense and I used a Hobbs wool batting and Omni thread by Superior.
After completion there were 446,660 stitches and it took me approximately 24 hours to quilt. In conclusion I loved the designs and the sew out was excellent.
